St. Joseph Catholic School
Reminders

Go to "School Updates" and the "Handbook" pages to get more detailed information.
2009-10

 St. Joseph School
 Inclement Weather Procedure:

The decision to cancel school due to inclement weather is made by the Archdiocesan School Office and not on an
individual school basis.  Notifications of school closings are made available to all local news agencies.  Parents/guardians
should look for “Johnson/Wyandotte County Catholic Schools” on local TV or radio stations.  Also, if parents have signed
up for weekly automatic email updates, a message about school closings will be sent to that email address as soon as possible.
A recorded message will be left on the school’s answering service as well.
Our school procedure is, that once school is in session for the day, the administration will not cancel classes or
dismiss early because of weather.  Parents/guardians are welcome to make arrangements to pick up students early if they wish.

We ask, however, that these arrangements be made as early as possible so that students are picked up before 3:00 PM.

Supply List

Parents and Students:  For your safety after school please do not walk straight across from the school to the EEC.  You MUST walk in the cross walk.  Due to the number of cars after school it is not safe to walk between the cars.  Thank you.
ALL Parents:  Please note that on Wednesday evening the School of Religion is in session in the Education Center facility.  Due to security issues, the SOR director cannot allow grade school students or parents into the building to retrieve forgotten items.  We ask that you please be considerate of the parish students having class.  Thank you very much.

Reminder:  Please do not park on the back parking lot during the school day.  You may use it before and after school.  During the day park on the north side of the EEC.  The back lot is the playground.

TRAFFIC:  Please be sure to use your turn signal when applicable during morning drop-off and afternoon pickup.  This is most helpful because teachers on duty then know which way to direct traffic.  Our goal is to ensure the safety of the children and to keep traffic moving efficiently.  Thank you for your continued cooperation.  The back parking lot is to be used for a.m. drop off and p.m. pick up.  However, during the school day it is the playground for our students.  Do NOT park in the back lot during school hours.  If there are no spaces in front or south of school please park in the north EEC lot.  Thank you.
Parent-Student Directories you may send $5.00 to school any day and we will send a Directory home with your child.
Mass:  Students in grades 1 - 5 will attend 8:15 a.m. Mass every Thursday and students in grades 6,7,8 will attend 8:15 Mass every Friday.   Grades 1 - 8 will attend the 8:15 a.m. First Friday Mass each month.
Just a reminder to parents of the importance of getting your children to school on time.  Learning punctuality is an important step in the education process and helps the child in future endeavors.  Arriving after the 8:00 a.m. bell is disruptive to the student's day, as well as the activities of the students already in the classroom.  Please help us with this matter.
Recycling:  We all want to encourage recycling.  You can easily help by getting the kids involved.  Just bring your old newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, wrapping paper and even shredded paper (loose paper in plastic bags please) and drop them in the big yellow recycling bin at the south east corner of the new Education Center.  No phonebooks or cardboard please (this is a different program than you home recycling program.)  The bin is available 24/7 for you convenience.
Parents, please sign your child out at the front desk when taking them home because of illness or an appointment, etc.  Also, when they come to school after 8:00 a.m. for the first time that day, they do not sign in but will go to the nurse for their admittance slip.
Save your used inkjet/laser toner cartridges.  The school recycles them.
TeacherWeb is linked on the school site.
Volunteers are needed with trucks to help the 2nd Wednesday of each month about 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. to help PTO with the Aluminum Can Drive.  Please crush cans if possible.  Please put in plastic bag clearly marked on the outside with the grade level.  Please drip off bag during morning drop off either on the side walk SOUTH of the school building or the EAST circle behind school.

8 1/2 X 11 copy paper:  If your company is getting new letterhead or you have paper printed on one side that you do not need, we could use such paper on our copy machines.  We make 100's of copies each day of work sheets, tests, etc. and could certainly use donations of paper.

Equipment Needed:  St. Joseph School has need for several items that families may be able to donate, especially if they have replaced them and have used, working equipment.  If you are able to donate an item, please contact the office at 631-7730 or sjoseph@archkckcs.org

The needed items include:

=Video players or VCR's for instructional use
=lightweight portable LCD projectors for student presentations
